Quinny
In late 2017, I was approached by Frank Banashley, Sr., whose Apache name was “Wakado,” pronounced “walk-uh-doo.” He was incarcerated with me at FCI Englewood, Colorado. At the time, Frank was in his early 60s and had been in prison for 18 years, with 25 more to serve. He asked me to tell his story to the world. From mid-2017 through mid-2018, I listened to Wakado day after day and took hundreds of pages of notes. From those notes, I wrote his story and titled it “Quinny,” after his son. The book tells of a father’s profound love, and his choice to endure 43 years in prison to protect his child. It is heartbreaking, inspiring, and redemptive.
